Following the launch of the refreshed Ford Ranger — the latter followed by the introduction of the updated Everest — Ford South Africa has announced the Ranger Super Duty is heading to Mzansi.
The Ranger Super Duty has been designed to lift the capabilities of the already capable Ranger package to new heights, with this, ahem, heavy-duty model sporting a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 4 500 kg and a gross combination mass (GCM) of 8 000 kg. The Ranger Super Duty offers a braked towing capacity of 4 500 kg; 1 000 kg more than its standard Ranger siblings. Ford quotes a payload capacity of 1 982 kg.
When will the Ford Ranger Super Duty launch in South Africa?
Ford South Africa has announced that the Ranger Super Duty will touch down on South African shores early in 2027. Pricing and specifications for the local Ranger Super Duty models will likely be revealed closer to their arrival in Mzansi.

Available in single- and double-cab configurations, the Ranger Super Duty employs the Blue Oval brand’s 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine, which produces 184 kW and 600 N.m of torque. Power is delivered to all four corners via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
“[The] Ranger Super Duty blends the smart features and advanced safety of the award-winning Ranger with heavy-duty capability, and delivers what our buyers told us they needed but couldn’t get anywhere else. This enhanced capability of the vehicle will give owners the flexibility they need to get the big jobs done, with the confidence of a factory-backed warranty,” said Neale Hill, President Africa Operations. “This will be a first-of-its-kind model introduction in South Africa, and aligns with Ford’s vision to match superior product capability directly with customer needs.”
“The Ranger Super Duty further strengthens our commercial vehicle portfolio, with an offering for all kinds of work. As we move towards [the] launch in 2027, we will continue to work closely with customers from various sectors, as well as vehicle modifiers through the Ford Pro Convertor programme to be sure that [the] Ranger Super Duty is configured for the on-the-ground needs of South African consumers.”
