In a bid to bolster the local Amarok line-up, VW has officially introduced the Amarok Dark Label to Mzansi.
The introduction of the Amarok Dark Label brings VW’s local double-cab bakkie offering to 13 variants. (A duo of single-cab models are also available.) Based on Style level of specification, the Amarok Dark Label can be had with the choice of two powertrain options: a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel (2.0 TDI) and a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 oil-burner (3.0 TDI V6) — the former and latter producing 125 kW/405 N.m and 184 kW/600 N.m, respectively. Both models are equipped with a four-wheel drivetrain — the latter paired with six- and 10-speed automatic transmissions in the 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI V6, respectively.
The Amarok Dark Label is distinguished from its Style-spec siblings via the fitment of several model-specific exterior and interior design elements. Starting with the former, the Amarok Dark Label features a black paint finish for the front grille and apron, side mirror housings and steps, door handles, B-pillars, roof rails, underbody protection, and rear bumper. The package also features darkened taillamps. The styling bar and set of 20-inch alloy wheels are finished in matte black.
Stepping inside, the Amarok Dark Label’s seats are upholstered in dark ArtVelours upholstery. The centre console, door panels, and headliner are trimmed in Ebony Black. The leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel features a ‘Dark Label’ emblem. Velour floor mats are also present.

The 2.0 TDI- and 3.0 TDI V6-powered Amarok Dark Label derivatives are priced from R931 600 and R1 111 500, respectively — the former and latter figure representing a R35 000 premium over the Style-spec derivatives on which they are based. Included with the pricing as standard are a five-year/150 000 km warranty and a maintenance planning spanning the same duration or 100 000 km.
