All-new Audi A6 allroad revealed

Audi has officially unveiled the new A6 allroad. We take a closer look at the German marque’s adventure-oriented wagon.

The A6 allroad can be had with the choice of two powertrain options, both of which paired with Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system (it is an allroad, no less). All-wheel steering is also present.

A first for an A6 allroad, the adventure-focused model is available in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) format. The A6 allroad e-hybrid’s PHEV setup comprises a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder internal combustion engine (ICE) and a single electric motor — the former and latter producing 185 kW and “up to” 105 kW. The PHEV arrangement produces a combined power output of 270 kW, with 500 N.m of torque delivered to the road via all four wheels. The electric motor is coupled with a 25.9 kWh (gross; 20.7 kWh, net) battery pack, which offers “up to” 95 km of all-electric driving on a single, full charge.

Next up is a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel ICE, which incorporates the German marque’s MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) plus technology. The V6 oil-burner churns out 220 kW and 580 N.m of twisting force. The MHEV plus system features a belt alternator starter and powertrain generator, which delivers “up to” 18 kW of additional power.

The A6 allroad is equipped with adaptive air suspension, replete with 55 mm adjustment range, as standard. The new model also boasts a 34 mm increase in ground clearance over the A6 Avant.

The A6 allroad’s wider (by 110 mm compared to the A6 Avant) bodywork wraps around an interior that plays host to the Ingolstadt brand’s MMI panoramic display, which features a 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. A 10.9-inch front passenger display can be specified at additional cost.

“The A6 allroad is an icon in the Audi lineup and has always embodied a clear philosophy: an Audi that is exceptionally comfortable for everyday use and displays its off-road capabilities when the terrain becomes more challenging,” said Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer at Audi AG. “The A6 allroad is the ideal companion for anyone who doesn’t want to plan their freedom, but simply wants to hit the road.”
