The turbocharged updated Renault Kiger has officially launched in South Africa. Here’s everything you need to know…
Joining the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder powertrain available with Renault’s local Kiger portfolio, the turbocharged engine is available with the choice of two transmission options: a five-speed manual and X-Tronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). As a reminder, the 53 kW/96 N.m atmospheric unit can be had with either a five-speed manual or automated manual transmission (AMT) with the same number of cogs.
The 1.0-litre turbo-triple produces 74 kW and 160 N.m of torque. In the X-Tronic-equipped model, the full complement of twisting force is available in a broad 2 000-5 000 r/min swathe of the rev band, while the manual derivatives deliver torque to the front axle from between 2 800 r/min and 3 600 r/min.

Renault claims average fuel consumption figures of 5.0 L/100 km and 6.0 L/100 km for the manual and X-tronic variants, respectively. Matching the former and latter figures translates to respective driving ranges of 800 km and 667 km from a full, 40-litre tank of fuel.
The turbocharged Kiger can be had with the choice of two trim grades: Techno and Iconic. As standard, both models feature an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring, and a 7.0-inch TFT instrumentation display.
How much does the Renault Kiger Turbo cost in South Africa?
