Limited to just 40 examples, the Opel Corsa Irmscher has touched down in South Africa. Here’s how much you can expect to pay for Opel’s ‘ultra-limited’ hatch…
As a reminder, bar this newly introduced, “ultra-limited” Corsa derivative, the local model line-up comprises a trio of variants — exclusively powered by Stellantis’ familiar 1.2-litre turbo-triple, which is available in two states of tune, a duo of transmission options, and three levels of specification. The latter includes Lite, Edition, and GS Line.
As mentioned, the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbopetrol — which is also employed by Opel’s Mokka boutique crossover/SUV and several Peugeot models, including the 208 and 2008 — can be had in two flavours. The latter includes 74 kW/202 N.m in the six-speed manual models and 96 kW/230 N.m in the variants equipped with an automatic transmission with the same number of cogs.
The manual- and automatic-equipped derivatives’ claimed average fuel consumption figures are 5.7 L/100 km and 6.3 L/100 km, respectively, while Opel says the former and latter completes the 0-100 km/h dash in 9.9 seconds and 8.7 seconds. The top speeds are rated at 194 km/h (manual) and 208 km/h (automatic).

But back to the Corsa Irmscher… This limited-run variant is exclusively available in the most powerful state of tune…and, from what we understand, sports the same performance figures as its 96 kW/230 N.m stablemates. However, while the ‘Irmscher’ badge doesn’t come with increased power and twisting force, not improved performance, considering it tips the scales at a only 1 233 kg (claimed), it remains a peppy little hatchback. However, thanks to a 30 mm drop in ride height, it should offer improved driving dynamics, as Opel claims.
The Irmscher package further includes a model-specific front spoiler lip, rear roof-mounter spoiler, aft diffuser and side skirts. Of course, ‘Irmscher’ badging is also present. The kit also features the fitment of larger, 18-inch alloy wheels (as opposed to its siblings’ 16-inch items), shod in 225/40 tyres.
According to the brand, these elements were designed to not only make a visual statement, but to also contribute to optimising the car’s handling and on-road stability.
How much does the Opel Corsa Irmscher cost in South Africa?
The Opel Corsa Irmscher is priced from R534 900, making it some R65 000 more expensive than the GS Line. Pricing includes a five-year/100 000 km warranty and a service plan spanning three years or 45 000 km.
