The local new Land Cruiser FJ line-up is available in GX and VX trim grades. However, it’s worth noting that, unlike the current-generation Land Cruiser Prado, the Land Cruiser FJ won’t (for the time being, at least) be offered with a ‘First Edition’ spec that includes retro-inspired round daytime-running lights and model-specific colour scheme. Still, the new Land Cruiser FJ’s boxy exterior styling remains suitably retro.
The Land Cruiser FJ can be had with the choice of five body hues. The exterior colour palette includes Attitude Black, Oxide Bronze, Platinum White Pearl, Ash and, seen on the Land Cruiser FJ pictured here, Calcite Blue. The latter looks good, doesn’t it?
A single engine option is employed across the two-strong model range. The latter comes in the shape of Toyota’s long-standing 2.7-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol motor, which produces 122 kW and 245 N.m of twisting force — the former and latter available from 5 200 r/min and 4 000 r/min, respectively — in this application. Despite reports having suggested a diesel powertrain could make its way into the Land Cruiser FJ package in the future, this has yet to be confirmed by the Japanese automaker.
The 2.7-litre unit is exclusively coupled with a part-time 4×4 drivetrain, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission featuring a low range transfer case. Toyota says the box-fresh FJ-badged Land Cruiser sips, on average, 10.7 L/100 km. Matching the firm’s claimed figure translates to a driving range of around 588 km on a single, full 63-litre tank of unleaded.
How much does the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ cost in South Africa?
Locally, the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is priced from R714 000 and R761 400 for the GX and VX models, respectively. Included with the pricing as standard are a three-year/100 000 km warranty and a service plan spanning nine services or 90 000 km.
