“It’s not just a Jimny, it’s a time machine” — That’s how the Australian arm of Japanese automaker Suzuki bills the recently-revealed Jimny Heritage, a limited-edition version of the five-door Jimny, which we sampled on long-distance journey to Botswana and, more recently, a trip to Sun City with the family. Only 500 examples of the retro-inspired Jimny XL — as the long(er)-wheelbase derivative is known in the Land Down Under — will be available.

So, what does the “blast-from-the-past” Jimny Heritage package include? Well, celebrating the characterful 4×4’s vibrant history, which spans more than five decades (54 years, to be precise), the special edition features unique decals, red fore and aft mud flaps, and a bespoke cargo tray.
The Jimny Heritage can be had with the choice of five exterior colour schemes. These include White; Chiffon Ivory, which includes a contrast Bluish Black Pearl roof; ever-popular Jungle Green; Bluish Black Pearl, and Granite Grey Metallic body hues.

From the images, it seems the Heritage kit is available in only flagship (GLX, as it is known on local shores; XL in Australia) level of specification. Among the raft of standard equipment, this trim grade includes a 9.0-inch, touch-enabled infotainment display, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen-mirroring; a leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel; automatic climate control; and a reverse-view camera system, which is supplemented by park distance sensors. Safety items include six airbags, Isofix child-seat anchorages, and ABS. The top-spec model sits on 15-inch alloy wheels, which are wrapped in 195/80-size tyres.
As a reminder, the five-door Jimny employs the same engine found in its three-door sibling — Suzuki’s familiar K15B unit, which can also be found in products such as the Baleno, Fronx, and XL6. In the Jimny, the 1.5-litre free-breathing petrol, which is available with the option of a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission, produces 75 kW and 130 N.m of torque, sent to all four corners of the boxy SUV when 4H or 4L is engaged.
