The box-fresh Suzuki Dzire has made landfall on South African shores. Here’s everything you need to know about, including local pricing, about the latest iteration of the Japanese automaker’s Swift-based compact sedan.

The fourth-generation Suzuki Dzire aims to build on its predecessor’s budget-oriented, yet feature-packed-for-the-price, proviso, with the three-strong local model line-up priced from just over R220 000 (see full pricing below).
Based on the Swift, the Dzire shares its mechanical components, including drivetrain, with its ever-popular hatchback sibling. The front-wheel-driven compact sedan is powered by the same (Z12E) 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 60 kW and 112 N.m of twisting force, and is available with the same transmission options: Suzuki’s slick-shifting five-speed manual cog swapper or newly introduced (with the latest Swift) continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Suzuki claims the manual- and CVT-equipped Dzire derivatives sip, on average, only 4.4 L/100 km and 4.5 L/100 km, respectively. Noteworthy, while the five-speed manual Dzire’s claimed average fuel consumption matches the equivalent Swift’s, the Dzire CVT is 0.1 L/100 km more frugal than its self-shifting Swift counterpart.
Based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, the compact sedan measures 3 995 mm long, front to rear, 1 739 mm in width, and 1 525 mm in height, making it 135 mm longer, 4 mm wider, and 5 mm taller than the hatchback with which it shares its underpinnings. Suzuki claims a luggage capacity of 378 litres.
Specification-wise, while the GL+ models gain 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto screen mirroring, a reverse-view camera array and cruise control, all derivatives include fore and aft park distance sensors, a height-adjustable driver’s pew and six airbags.

How much does the new Suzuki Dzire cost in South Africa?

Slotting in between these models, the mid-range, GL+ manual costs R246 900. As standard, pricing includes a four-year/60 000 km service plan and a warranty spanning five years or 200 000 km.
