The diesel-powered GWM Tank 300 models have launched in Mzansi. Here’s everything you need to know, including pricing and specifications.
The Tank 300 Diesel employs GWM’s 2.4-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged oil-burner. (As a reminder, this unit is also available with the recently launched P300 bakkie and its P500 sibling.)
The 2.4T powertrain produces 135 kW and 480 N.m of twisting force, the full complement of which is available from a mere 1 500 r/min. Power and torque are exclusively sent to all four corners via a nine-speed automatic cog swapper, replete with low-range transfer case.
Seven driving programs are available, including a ‘Tank Turn’ function. In addition to the Super Luxury derivative’s rear electronic diff lock, the Ultra Luxury model gains a front item. The rated braked towing capacity is 3 000 kg.
Perhaps the most notable is the fuel consumption. GWM claims an average of 7.7 L/100 km for the diesel, making it considerably more efficient than the (162 kW/380 N.m) 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol (9.5 L/100 km) and 255 kW/684 N.m HEV model (8.4 L/100 km).
As mentioned, the diesel derivative is available with the choice of two trim grades, Super Luxury and Ultra Luxury. Included in the Tank 300 Diesel package are such items as 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring; 12.3-inch digital instrumentation; a nine-speaker Infinity audio system; dual-zone climate control; a 360-degree surround-view camera array; 64-colour ambient lighting; and heated and ventilated front pews that feature massage functionality.
What is the Tank 300 Diesel’s price in South Africa?
The Tank 300 Diesel is priced from a hair below R700 000 for the Super Luxury derivative and from R739 900 for the Ultra Luxury model. As standard, all Tank 300s ship with a seven-year/200 000 km warranty and a service plan spanning the same duration or 75 000 km. The HEV derivative further gains an eight-year/150 000 km battery warranty.
