Kia has finally introduced the fresh-faced four-generation Sorento to Mzansi. Here’s how much the updated model line-up costs.
The fourth iteration of Kia South Africa’s flagship SUV offering has been handed a timely update — the facelift ushering in bolder exterior styling, and improved convenience and safety features for the seven-seater. In addition, the local arm of the South Korean marque has revised the model line-up, which now comprises three derivatives instead of four.
The updated Sorento is available with the choice of three trim grades, with EX+ serving is as the opening gambit to the line-up. EX+ spec ships with such items as 12.3-inch, touch-enabled infotainment, which incorporates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring; dual-zone climate control; front and rear park distance sensors; a reverse-view camera; a wireless smartphone charging bay; a six-speaker audio system; keyless start and entry; a panoramic sunroof; cruise control; synthetic leather upholstery; and a leather-clad multifunction steering wheel.
SX level of specification upgrades to heated and ventilated electrically-adjustable front seats, replete with lumbar support and memory function for the driver’s item; heating functionality for the steering wheel; rain-sensing wipers; an electrically operated tailgate; and an array of advance driver assistance systems. The latter includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, rear cross traffic alert, and blind-spot collision avoidance.
Spearheading the range, SXL trim gains Kia’s 12.3-inch Supervision TFT LCD instrument display; head-up display; 360-degree panoramic camera array; side park distance sensors; and a 12-speaker Bose surround sound system. Blind-spot monitoring is also included in the flagship package.
The revised Sorento retains the pre-facelifted model’s 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel oil-burner and eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which drives the front axle (EX+) or all four wheels (SX and SXL). As a reminder, the four-pot produces 148 kW and 440 N.m of torque.
How much does the updated Kia Sorento cost in South Africa?
The updated fourth-generation Kia Sorento is priced from R999 995 for the EX+ derivative to R1 299 995 for the range-topping, SXL variant, while the mid-tier, SX model will set you back R1 199 995. As standard, the Sorento ships with a five-year/unlimited km warranty and a maintenance plan spanning six years or 90 000 km.
