Haval has introduced a plug-in hybrid variant of its H6 midsize SUV to Mzansi. We highlight the latest member in the Chinese automaker’s local H6 model portfolio.
GWM (Great Wall Motor) is expanding its local new-energy vehicle product line-up with the launch of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Haval H6 derivatives. Available with front- and all-wheel drivetrains, both H6 PHEV models employ a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol internal combustion engine (ICE). Sans electric assistance, the ICE produces 110 kW and 240 N.m of torque. The front-wheel-drive variant’s electric motor adds 130 kW and 300 N.m to the mix, for a combined system output of 240 kW and 540 N.m. The electric assistance paired with the Hi-4 all-wheel drivetrain produces slightly more power (up 20 kW) and a healthy 520 N.m; resulting in combined peak power and torque outputs of 268 kW and 760 N.m. Both models are equipped with a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).
The H6 PHEV features a 19.1 kWh battery pack, which offers an electric-only operating range of up to 106 km on a single, full charge, the Chinese automaker says. Haval claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.0 L/100 km for the front-wheel-drive model and 5.3 L/100 km for the Hi-4 variant. Matching the company’s claim allows for a combined driving range of over 1 000 km from a full, 55-litre tank of fuel.
