The automotive world is fast (and we do mean “fast”) moving towards an emissions-free future. Indeed, several automakers have already announced their plans to completely ditch internal combustion engines in favour of electric motoring. However, Toyota is taking a holistic approach to the future of mobility.
The Japanese automotive giant aims to provide an array mobility solutions, each suitable for a distinct application. The firm is pursuing new energies such as carbon-neutral fuel for ICE, hydrogen, hybrid technologies (the company just recently revealed the power figures of the Hilux Hybrid 48V, remember?), and, of course, all-electric propulsion.
Earlier in 2023, Toyota showcased the FT-Se, a future-focused concept of an electric sports car. Now, the company has whipped the wraps off two new concept vehicles, both electric, of course.
Meet the Urban SUV Concept and Sport Crossover Concept. Let’s dive into the details.
Toyota Urban SUV Concept
The Urban SUV Concept was showcased to give the world a glimpse of an upcoming Toyota emissions-free SUV. Upcoming, you ask? So, when will it be introduced? In short, 2024. That’s soon!
Of course, as this is a concept model, we will still have to wait and see how the production version will look. However, the carmaker has said that it hints at the real thing.
The Urban SUV Concept’s bodywork, although boxy in shape, sports clean lines. The front end features slim headlamps, while a light strip, spanning the tailgate, connects the rear units. The concept measures 4 300 mm in length, 1 820 mm in width, and 1 620 mm in height.
Toyota has yet to release power and torque, and performance specifications of this battery-electric vehicle (BEV). However, the firm has confirmed the upcoming, production version will incorporate a dual-battery set-up.
Toyota Sport Crossover Concept
Sporting sleek lines, spanning from the front end to the rear, this coupé-styled, BEV concept cuts a dashing figure. According to Toyota, this model, with its fastback bodywork, provides a fashionable alternative to SUVs.
This model is developed in collaboration with Chinese manufacturer BYD. It is scheduled to make its debut in 2025.
