The waiting list for the Range Rover Electric has officially opened. Yup, Range Rover owners looking for something a a touch quieter (okay, seemingly dead silent) can now put their names up to be among the first to pre-order what the British luxury brand dubs as the quietest Range Rover ever created.

Hm, so it is quiet, you say. Of course, it’s an electric vehicle (EV). But don’t let the lack of a seemingly thunderous V8 petrol powertrain dishearten you. The Coventry-based marque’s first emissions-free SUV — which is endowed with a high-voltage, 800 V electrical system — will go like lightning.
Yup, Land Rover has mentioned that the Range Rover Electric’s performance will be comparable to that of its flagship, internal combustion, V8 sibling. However, that is not all.
As it is a Range Rover, it should be refined and extremely capable when leaving the beaten track behind. Well, let’s start with the former.
The manufacturer says its engineers are on target to create the most refined Range Rover ever created. The first-of-its-kind Range Rover will feature a unique sound design and a bespoke active road-noise cancellation configuration.

So, you want to take the roads less travelled in your luxury SUV? Why not? Not his a Range Rover, after all. But what can we expect, in terms of off-road capability, from the upcoming model?
Well, Land Rover is currently subjecting prototype models to “one of the most rigorous engineering sign-off programmes ever”. According to the automaker, the tests will confirm the SUV’s capability in extreme temperatures, all environmental conditions, and on every terrains. In addition, the company has confirmed it will boast a wading depth of 850 mm.
“The first fully electric vehicle from Range Rover will amplify its modern luxury credentials. Its exemplary British design remains distinctive and unwavering, while its go-anywhere capability will ensure towing, wading and all-terrain technology surpass any other luxury electric SUV,” said the company.

The Range Rover Electric is based on the firm’s Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture. It will be built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull production facility in the UK.
