The box-fresh Hyundai Santa Fe has launched in South Africa. Here’s everything you need to know about the new generation. See pricing below…
The new Hyundai Santa Fe is exclusively available with a hybrid powertrain, which comprises a 132 kW/265 N.m 1.6-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 44 kW/264 N.m electric motor. The petrol-electric set-up produces a peak power and torque output of 175 kW and 367 N.m, sent to the front and rear wheels via a six-speed automatic cog swapper. A trio of drive and terrain modes are on offer, the former including Eco, Sport and My Drive, and the latter, Sand, Mud and Snow.

According to the Japanese automaker, the 1 980 kg seven-seater completes the 0-100 km/h dash in 9.5 seconds, before topping out at 190 km/h. The combined average fuel consumption is a claimed 7.5 L/100 km. Matching Hyundai’s claim allows for a driving range of 893 km from the SUV’s 67-litre fuel tank.
The Sante Fe’s boxy bodywork measures 4 830 mm long, front to rear, 1 900 mm wide, 1 770 mm in height and 2 815 mm between the fore and aft axles. The three-row SUV sports a ground clearance of 177 mm. The braked towing capacity is rated at 1 650 kg.

Stepping inside, the new Santa Fe package features a raft of convenience features. The latter includes an expansive dual-screen panel, which comprises a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment; two wireless smartphone charging bays; a Bose sound system; dual-zone climate control and rear air conditioning; a 360-degree surround-view camera array; heating functionality for the multifunction steering wheel; heated/ventilated front seats; and two sunroofs. Safety items include six airbags, Isofix child-seat anchorages on the second and third row of seats; blind-spot monitoring; lane-keep and -following assist, and adaptive cruise control.
With all seats in place, the Santa Fe offers 413 litres of boot space, which expands to 1 148 litres and 2 253 litres when folding down the third and second rows, respectively.

At launch, the local Santa Fe line-up comprises a single derivative, priced from R1 249 900. Pricing includes a six-year/90 000 km service plan, a seven-year/200 000 km warranty and an eight-year/160 000 km warranty for the hybrid battery.
