Spearheading Omoda South Africa’s new-energy offensive, the C9 PHEV has launched in Mzansi. Here’s everything you need to know, including pricing, about the new C9 flagship.
The Omoda C9 PHEV’s plug-in hybrid powertrain comprises a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a trio of “high-efficiency” electric motors. The petrol-electric setup is coupled with a three-speed direct hybrid transmission (DHT), which delivers power and torque to the front and rear axles.
The new-energy C9 produces a whopping 440 kW and 915 N.m for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.9 seconds. The Chinese marque claims a combined consumption figure of 1.4 L/100 km when the all-paw PHEV’s battery pack is fully charged and a still-impressive 6.9 L/100 km when the 34.5 kWh item is discharged. According to the firm, this C9 can travel up to 150 km on electricity alone. A combined operating range of 1 100 km (claimed) is on offer.

The PHEV arrangement is capable of 70 kW DC fast charging. According to the marque, when plugged into a DC charging station, a 30 per cent to 80 per cent recharge takes just 25 minutes.
Stepping inside, the flagship C9 features such items as 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and an Android Auto/Apple CarPlay-enabled touchscreen infotainment system of similar size; a 50 W wireless smartphone charging bay; a 12-speaker Sony audio system; heated/ventilated electrically adjustable front seats; heated rear pews; and dual-zone climate control and rear air conditioning. A panoramic sunroof is also included in the package.
How much does the Omoda C9 PHEV cost in South Africa?
The new-energy Omoda C9 is priced from R999 000. Pricing includes a seven-year/100 000 km service plan and a warranty spanning seven years or 200 000 km. A 10-year/200 000 km warranty for the battery pack is included in the package.
