BMW has revealed local pricing and specifications for the new M5 Touring. Here’s what you can expect.
BMW unveiled the new-generation M5 Touring in 2024 and confirmed it will reach our shores in 2025. Well, the wagon version of the barnstorming M5 saloon has now finally arrived in Mzansi. See pricing below…
As a reminder, the M5 Touring is equipped with BMW’s M Hybrid powertrain, which comprises a 430 kW/750 N.m 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and a 145 kW/280 N.m electric motor. Combined, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup produces a peak system output of 535 kW and a whopping 1 000 N.m of torque, transferred to all four corners via BMW’s eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.

According to the Bavarian firm, these figures allow the Touring variant to dispatch the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.6 seconds; just one-tenth of a second slower than its saloon sibling. Interestingly, the M5 wagon actually weighs less its faster M5 saloon stablemate — 2 375 kg vs 2 435 kg, claimed.
In the 0-200 km/h acceleration stakes, the M5 Touring breaches the two-tonne marker from a standstill only two-tenths of a second later than the M5 saloon’s 10.9-second 0-200 km/h time, before topping out at an electronically governed 250 km/h. However, for South Africa, the M5 Touring ships with the M Driver’s package as standard — the fitment of the latter lifting the top speed to 305 km/h.
Stopping power is provided by a set of M Compound brakes, housed behind 20-inch fore and 21-inch rear alloy wheels. However, customers have the option of specifying carbon-ceramic units.
Thanks to its PHEV powertrain, which is fed by a 18.6 kWh battery pack, the M5 Touring offers a claimed all-electric driving range of 67 km. Running on electricity and ICE, the M Hybrid setup has a claimed fuel consumption figure of 2.0 L/100 km. However, when the battery is discharged, BMW claims a fuel consumption figure of 10.9 L/100 km for the Touring.
How much does the BMW M5 Touring cost in South Africa?
The new BMW M5 Touring is priced from R2 795 000, which includes a two-year/unlimited km vehicle warranty, eight-year/100 000 km battery warranty, and a maintenance plan spanning five years or 100 000 km.
