Billed as the new disruptor in the compact-crossover/SUV segment, the Mahindra XUV 3XO has touched down on South African shores, with the XUV300’s replacement sporting a striking exterior design, enhanced tech, and a punchy turbocharged three-pot, which, notably, as opposed to its predecessor, can now be had with an automatic cog swapper. So, what can you expect from the newcomer? Well, let’s start with pricing…

How much does the Mahindra XUV 3XO cost in South Africa?
Priced from R254 999 to R404 999, the local XUV 3XO line-up comprises eight derivatives, available with the option of five trim levels: MX2, MX3, AX5, AX5L, and AX7L (pictured here in Citrine Yellow body hue).
Notably, whereas the XUV300 could be had with the choice of a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol or 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged oil-burner, the XUV 3XO is only available with the former, mStallion unit, tuned to produce 82 kW and 200 N.m of torque, the latter of which is sent to the front axle from a lowly 1 500 r/min. Noteworthy, the company has added a six-speed self-shifter to the range. A manual transmission with the same number of cogs is also available.

Taking a closer look at the equipment levels, the XUV 3XO line-up includes a raft of convenience and safety items (such as six airbags, Isofix child-seat anchorages, and electronic stability control) as standard.
To name but a few, MX2 variants feature 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, a four-speaker audio system, halogen projector headlamps, and 16-inch steel wheels. MX5 trim upgrades to a 10.25-inch, touch-enabled infotainment setup, replete with Apple CarPlay and (wireless) Android Auto screen mirroring; wireless smartphone charging; cruise control, and a sunroof.
AX5 derivatives upgrade to a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and gains wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity. Dual-zone climate control, a six-speaker sound system, a rear-view camera, tyre-pressure monitoring, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 16-inch wheels are also included in the package. AX5L trim upgrades to a 360-degree surround-view camera setup, blind-spot monitoring (relayed via video feedback relayed to the driver’s display), and Level 2 ADAS.
On top of the aforementioned items, the flagship, AX7L model gains 17-inch alloys; a Harman Kardon sound system, replete with amplifier and sub-woofer; leatherette trim for the pews, dashboard and door cards; and a larger sunroof.
