Boasting a whopping 633 kW and 881 N.m of torque, Hennessey has whipped the wraps off the Ford Mustang Dark Horse-based Super Venom Mustang, a special edition with which the US company is commemorating its 91st anniversary. Only 91 examples will be built…
Available from 7 250 r/min and 4 900 r/min, respectively, the Super Venom Mustang’s peak power and twisting force allow for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint time of 3.2 seconds, making it five-tenths of a second quicker to the 60 mph marker from a standstill than the standard (372 kW/567 N.m) Mustang Dark Horse. (As a reminder, in South Africa the Mustang Dark Horse’s Coyote engine is detuned to produce 334 kW and 540 N.m, allowing for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.4 seconds.)
In addition, Hennessey claims the Super Venom Mustang bests the standard Mustang Dark Horse’s ¼ mile sprint time by 1.1 seconds — 10.9 seconds (at 214 km/h) versus 12 seconds (at 191 km/h).

The Super Venom Mustang’s titanic power and torque outputs come courtesy of the fitment of a high-performance supercharger, revisions to the high-flow air-induction setup, uprated fuel injectors and, notably, the Texas-based company’s engine management system, among many other upgrades.
However, Hennessey hasn’t only reworked the engine of its latest Ford Mustang-based limited edition. To ensure the Super Venom Mustang remains glued to the road, the special edition is equipped with Hennessey’s carbon-fibre VenomAero aerodynamics package. Among the items included with the latter are a new front splitter and a large, ‘goose-neck’ rear spoiler.
The carbon-fibre treatment has been carried over to the Super Venom Mustang’ side mirror caps, while carbon-fibre trim has also been applied to the engine. The Super Venom Mustang is equipped with a set of 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels.
So, how much does it cost to convert your Mustang Dark Horse into a Super Venom Mustang? Well, in short, $163 950, which, at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate, translates to R3 066 037.15. It is worth noting the latter figure includes the asking price of the donor Mustang Dark Horse. So, basically, just more than double what the Mustang Dark Horse costs in South Africa.
