When will the new entry-level Volkswagen T-Cross launch in South Africa?
The base-spec Volkswagen T-Cross derivatives are scheduled to launch in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Entry-level Volkswagen T-Cross engine and transmission options
Both of the upcoming base T-Cross models employ the German marque’s familiar 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol powertrain.
However, for the least expensive (R400 700) variant, the turbo-triple has been tuned to produce 70 kW. In addition, this model sends drive to the front wheels via a manual cog swapper. Volkswagen claims this derivative sips, on average, 5.9 L/100 km.
Equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the R418 200 base-spec model model will, like the models currently available in South Africa, be endowed with 85 kW and 200 N.m of twisting force. The Wolfsburg-based brand claims an average fuel consumption figure of 5.6 L/100 km for the more powerful, DSG-equipped powertrain.
Entry-level Volkswagen T-Cross specifications
As standard, base level of specification ships with an 8.0-inch digital instrument binnacle; an 8.0-inch, touch-enabled infotainment system, which incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring; a two-speaker sound system; a multifunction steering wheel; and rear park distance sensors. LED head- and taillamps, and 16-inch steel wheels are also included in the entry-level package.
How much does the Volkswagen T-Cross cost in South Africa?
With the inclusion of the two new entry-level models, Volkswagen’s local T-Cross product portfolio will comprise five derivatives, priced from R400 700 to R543 800. As standard, all variants are sold with a three-year/120 000 km warranty and a service plan spanning three years or 45 000 km.
