Ushering in a new era for the Three-pointed Star brand’s Van department, Mercedes-Benz has whipped the wraps off the Vision V, a design study of a future Mercedes-Benz multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that aims to redefine the MPV segment.

Introducing the German marque’s modular Van Electric Architecuture (VAN.EA), the series-production portfolio will comprise a selection of models, ranging from family-focused derivatives to variants positioned as “exclusive” VIP shuttles and opulent limousine-like variants. And it’s the latter the Vision V concept seen here provides a glimpse of.

According to the Stuttgart-based automaker, the Vision V demonstrates the firm’s vision of combining a generous amount of space with an immersive, digital experience and unprecedented levels of exclusivity.

A futuristic interpretation of Mercedes-Benz’s ‘Sensual Purity’ design language, the Vision V’s looks space-age. The front facia is characterised by a new interpretation of the manufacturer’s signature radiator grille (closed off, of course, as this will be a fully electric MPV). The latter item incorporates three illuminated horizontal glass louvres and an illuminated surround. In addition, those with a keen eye may have noticed the illuminated emblem on the bonnet. Below the latter, a light bar spans the front end. ’Round back, the aft lighting array surrounds the rear window. The Vision V sits on a set of 24-inch wheels, which also feature lighting elements.
Stepping inside, the Vision V’s ‘Private Lounge’ rear seating compartment features a retractable, 65-inch cinema screen. In addition, the side windows serve as additional screens to provide occupants a 360-degree entertainment experience. A 42-speaker surround-sound system, replete with Dolby Atmos, and, to enhance interior ambience, ambient lighting. The front compartment features a trio of digital displays.

“The Vision V is the beginning of a new era for Mercedes-Benz Vans. It demonstrates, in the truest sense of the word, how we bring luxury to a spacious cabin and define a new segment. With that, we set standards in design, comfort and an immersive user experience, while meeting the highest demands of our customers,” said Thomas Klein, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, added: “The Mercedes-Benz Vans have been iconic for decades. With the Vision V, we take that heritage and transform it into a completely new context of highest luxury transportation. This show car embodies the perfect harmony between luxury and van design, setting a new benchmark for the future.”
