Porsche has whipped the wraps off the 911 Spirit 70, the German marque’s latest limited-edition 911. Only 1 500 examples will be made.
Based on the 992.2-generation 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet, the 911 Spirit 70 employs Porsche’s T-Hybrid powertrain. The “super-lightweight” performance-focused setup comprises a newly developed (357 kW/570 N.m) 3.6-litre flat-six internal combustion engine (ICE), replete with an electric turbocharger (eTurbo), and a (41 kW/150 N.m) compact permanently excited synchronous electric motor that’s integrated into the petrol-electric 911 Carrera’s eight-speed PDK transmission housing and coupled with a 400 V battery with a 1.9 kWh (gross) capacity. A 12 V lithium-iron phosphate starter battery is also present.
The T-Hybrid setup produces combined peak power and torque outputs of 398 kW and 610 N.m; increases of 45 kW and 40 N.m over the 992.1-generation 911 Carrera GTS’s 3.0-litre turbocharged horizontally-opposed six-cylinder.

Equipped with Porsche’s Sport Chrono Package, the (rear-wheel-driven; 1 675 kg) 911 Spirit 70 completes the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 3.1 seconds, before reaching the 200 km/h marker 7.8 seconds later. The top speed is rated at 312 km/h.
Seen here dressed in ‘Olive Neo’, a paint colour specially created for the 911 Spirit 70, the limited edition features a selection of heritage-inspired exterior design elements. A nod to the safety stickers of the 1970s, special decals have been applied to the bonnet and and side panels. A neat addition, the Porsche crest sited on the bonnet is “almost identical” to the item of 1963. Gold-coloured badges, including ‘911 Spirit 70’ at the rear, are also present. The 911 Spirit 70 is fitted with staggered, 20-inch front/21-inch rear Sport Classic alloy wheels.
The heritage theme continues to the interior, where the centre panels of the leather-trimmed sports pews are upholstered in ‘Pasha’ fabric. The ‘Pasha’ motif is also present on the door panels and facia.

How much does the Porsche 911 Spirit 70 cost in South Africa?
The Porsche 911 Spirit 70 is priced from R5 034 000, making this special-edition model around R1.2 million more expensive than the rear-wheel-drive 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet. A three-year/100 000 km maintenance plan and two-year/unlimited km warranty are included in the asking price.

“The Heritage Design models occupy a special position within our product strategy from a design perspective,” said Michael Mauer, Porsche’s Vice President of Style. “The limited-edition sports cars visualise what makes the Porsche brand so special. Every design of our vehicles ties in with our history — these vehicles go one step further. They show how we reinterpret historical design elements in a state-of-the-art sports car.”
