We’ve always had a soft spot for the Suzuki Swift. It is a brilliant little budget hatchback. So, when the box-fresh iteration was revealed, we were excited for the new generation to touch down on South African shores. Well, soon, the new Swift will officially go on sale in Mzansi. Wondering what you can expect from the latest model? Well, here you go — here is everything you can expect from the new Swift…

Locally, the new Suzuki Swift line-up comprises five derivatives. The range is available with the choice of three trim grades, two transmission options, and a single engine option. The latter comes in the shape of the Japanese manufacturer’s new-generation Z12E powertrain, a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol unit producing 60 kW and 112 N.m of torque, exclusively sent to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox or continuously variable transmission (CVT). Indeed, the company has ditched the previous iteration’s automated manual transmission (AMT) option in favour of the latter.
The tree levels of specification on offer are GL, GL+, and GLX. As standard, GL trim features a digital information display, which is sited in the instrument binnacle; fore and aft electric windows; electrically adjustable and foldable side mirrors; rear park distance sensors; LED taillamps; and a height-adjustable driver’s pew. This model rides on a set of 14-inch steel wheels, replete with wheel covers. A space-saver spare wheel is included in the GL package. Noteworthy, all models feature six airbags, an electronic stability programme, hill-hold control, and emergency brake assist.
Mid-tier, GL+ spec gains a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring; steering wheel-mounted audio controls; and a reverse-view camera setup (on top of the GL’s aft park distance sensors). The GL+ is fitted with 15-inch alloy wheels.
The top-tier, GLX models upgrade to a 9.0-inch, touch-enabled infotainment display; leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel; cruise control; LED headlamps, replete with LED daytime-running lights; and diamond-cut alloys, measuring 15 inches in diameter.
