Mercedes-Benz has revealed the refreshed S-Class, which includes the extremely opulent Mercedes-Maybach model.
Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the updated S-Class, which not only introduces a raft of exterior and interior revisions to the German automaker’s flagship saloon package, but also a brand-new V8 powertrain option. Let’s take a closer look…
Styling-wise, the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class adopts a 20 per cent larger (compared to the pre-facelifted model) front grille — the latter flanked by headlamp clusters featuring new daytime-running light signatures that resemble three-pointed stars. Along with the front grille, the Three-pointed Star ornament sited on the bonnet is illuminated.
The Mercedes-Maybach model gains illuminated “Maybach” lettering on the chrome front grille surround and rose gold trim inside the headlamp clusters. A neat addition, the alloy wheels’ centre caps are self-levelling on this variant.
Stepping inside, the cabin features the Stuttgart marque’s MBUX Superscreen. Standard fitment, the latter comprises a trio of displays, for instrumentation (12.3 inches), central touch-enabled infotainment (14.4 inches), and front passenger (12.3 inches).

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class can be had with a selection of powertrain options, which includes diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Starting with the diesel units, the S350d 4Matic and S450d 4Matic’s 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-sixes produce 230 kW/650 N.m and 270 kW/750 N.m, respectively.
The S450 4Matic and S500 4Matic’s 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol engines are endowed with 280 kW/560 N.m and 330 kW/600 N.m, respectively. The S580 4Matic introduces Mercedes-Benz’s latest V8 petrol powertrain, which develops 395 kW and 750 N.m of torque. The Three-pointed Star brand says the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged unit’s outputs are good for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.0 seconds.
Rounding off the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class powertrain line-up, the S450e and S580e 4Matic’s 3.0-litre, six-cylinder PHEV powertrains develop 320 kW/680 N.m and 480 kW/750 N.m, respectively.
In addition to the S580 4Matic and S580e 4Matic powertrains mentioned above, the updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is also available in S680 flavour. This model is powered by a 450 kW/850 N.m 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8. The Mercedes-Maybach will also be offered with the firm’s 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12, which churns out 450 kW and 900 N.m, in select countries.
