Up until now, Citroën’s local C3 model line-up comprised only a duo of derivatives, both of which sharing the same engine and transmission: a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol powertrain, which, as a reminder, produces a modest 60 kW and 115 N.m of torque, exclusively sent to the front axle via a five-speed manual cog swapper. However, recently, the company introduced a brand-new variant to South African shores…
With the latest addition to the range, Citroën South Africa aims to offer consumers — especially those in the market for an affordable compact hatchback sporting an automatic gearbox — more choice. Indeed, the third model in the firm’s C3 portfolio is equipped with a six-speed self-shifter. What’s more, with the fitment of forced induction, its 1.2-litre turbo-triple is more powerful than the atmospheric unit employed by its siblings.
Of course, this does make the car seen here, which is only available in top-tier, Max trim grade, a touch more expensive. However, it remains a pocket-friendly buy, with the new range-topping model priced below R300 000. (See pricing for the range below.)

Available from 5 500 r/min and 1 750 r/min, the turbocharged C3 is endowed with 81 kW and 205 N.m, 21 kW and 90 N.m up on the naturally aspirated models’ power and torque outputs, which are available from 5 750 r/min and 3 750 r/min, respectively. Offering more low-end grunt, the turbo-equipped C3 has a claimed average fuel consumption of 6.3 L/100 km, making it 0.7 L/100 km thirstier than the non-turbocharged derivatives.
As mentioned, the turbocharged C3 is only available in Max level of specification. Included with this trim line are niceties such as a 10-inch, touch-enabled infotainment system, which incorporates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring. The car also features LED daytime-running lights and alloy wheels.
