The Citroën Basalt has officially made local landfall. Here’s how much you can expect to pay for the French automaker’s coupé-styled compact SUV.
The third model in Citroën’s C-Cubed programme, following the C3 and Aircross, the Basalt has officially launched in South Africa, with the local arm of the French carmaker revealing pricing and specs for its coupé-styled compact SUV.
The Basalt package includes such niceties as 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, which incorporates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone screen mirroring, a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display, keyless entry and start, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, rear park distance sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Safety items include six airbags and Isofix child-seat anchorage points.

How much does the Citroën Basalt cost in South Africa?
Locally, the two-strong Citroën Basalt line-up is priced from R354 900 for the Plus derivative and R369 900 for the Max flagship model. Included with the pricing as standard are a five-year/100 000 km warranty and a service plan spanning four years or 60 000 km.

The Basalt is exclusively available with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 81 kW and 205 N.m of torque, the latter available from 1 750 r/min to 2 500 r/min. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Citroën claims an average fuel consumption of 6.3 L/100 km. Matching the brand’s claim translates to a driving range of over 700 km from a single, 45-litre tank of fuel.
The Basalt’s in-vogue bodywork measures 4 352 mm in length, 1 765 mm in width, and 1 593 mm in height. The wheelbase spans 2 651 mm. The ground clearance is rated at 180 mm. The company claims a boot capacity of 470 litres.
