588 kW Lamborghini Urus SE unleashed!

Lamborghini has whipped the covers off the Urus SE, a brand-new version of the Italian luxury marque’s super SUV that is endowed with a plug-in-hybrid powertrain producing a whopping 588 kW. Here’s what you can expect from the most powerful SUV ever created by the Raging Bull brand…

For the Urus SE, Lamborghini says it has “re-engineered” the 4.0-litre V8 engine powering the Urus S and Urus Performante. However, it’s worth noting that, whereas the latter twin-turbocharged petrol powering the former and latter models churns out 490 kW and 850 N.m of torque, the Urus SE’s has been tuned to the, ahem, tune of 456 kW and 800 N.m. So, where does the 588 kW come from? An electric motor, of course!

The electrified Urus’ permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor produces 141 kW and 483 N.m, which, coupled with the internal combustion engine, results in total power and torque outputs of 588 kW and 950 N.m, sent to the front and rear axles via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Peak power and torque are available as soon as the rev needle edges 6 000 r/min and 1 750 r/min, respectively.

Thanks to these enormous outputs, the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based brand’s latest Urus sprints to the three-figure marker from a standstill in a claimed 3.4 seconds, before topping out at a maximum speed of 312 km/h. The 0-200 km/h sprint is completed in a claimed 11.2 seconds.

But how does this compare to the Urus S and Urus Performante? Well, for starters, the Urus SE is 0.1 seconds quicker in the 0-100 km/h sprint stakes compared to the former, while it will reach 100 km/h 0.1 seconds after the Urus Performante has arrived there. However, the Urus SE is faster than both of its siblings, with its 312 km/h top speed eclipsing the Urus S and Urus Performante’s by 7 km/h and 6 km/h, respectively.

Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann says, “With the Urus SE, we’ve taken another step towards the future in line with our ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ strategy, moving ahead with the electrification of the range and the path toward decarbonisation that began with the introduction of the Revuelto super sports car.”
