The wait is over! The much-anticipated Volvo EX30 has finally touched down on the Southern-most tip of Africa.

Comprising five models, the Swedish brand’s local EX30 portfolio is priced from R775 900. As such, it is one of the least-expensive electric vehicles (EVs) in SA. So, what can you expect from the range?
For starters, there are three trim levels: entry-level Core, mid-spec Plus, and top-tier Ultra. The base-spec model is available with only a single electric motor set-up, while the Plus and Ultra derivatives can be had in Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance guises.
The single motor arrangement comprises a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and, as it’s name would suggest, a single electric motor. In this format, the latter produces 200 kW and 243 Nm of torque, which, according to Volvo, allows for a 0-100 km/h sprint of 5.7 seconds. The claimed electric range is 344 km.
Moving on to the extended range variants, these models’s single electric motor is powered by a larger, 69 kWh battery. As a result, the range has been lifted to 480 km. At the same time, this arrangement shaves 0.4 seconds off the former derivative’s 0-100 km/h sprint time.
The Twin Motor Performance model is equipped with a duo of electric motors, which sends a combined 315 kW and 543 Nm to all four wheels. Thanks to its power and torque outputs, this model, the Gothenburg-based automaker claims, dispatches the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds. How far can it travel on a single, full charge? In short, 460 km (claimed, of course).

The EX30 ships with with a five-year/100 000 km warranty (eight years for the battery) and a maintenance plan of similar duration and distance. It also includes five-year/unlimited km roadside assistance, DataDot, and Volvo On Call. The latter comprises SOS roadside assistance and personal concierge service.
