At a recent Toyota South Africa Motors event, the local arm of the Japanese car manufacturer confirmed the GR GT will be available in Mzansi.
The follow-up act to the iconic Toyota 2000GT and Lexus LFA, in December 2025, Toyota Motor Corporation officially unveiled the GR GT, the new pinnacle model in the Japanese car manufacturer’s performance car portfolio. Looks spectacular, doesn’t it? And the local arm of the Aichi automaker revealed at a December 2025 media event that the GR GT will, indeed, make its way to Mzansi. Exciting stuff!
When will the Toyota GR GT launch in South Africa?
The production version of the GR GT is penned in for a 2027 launch. However, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has yet to announce the exact date when the GR GT will arrive in South Africa.

As a reminder, the GR GT will employ a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 internal combustion engine (ICE) incorporating electric assistance. The production model’s petrol-electric setup, Toyota says, is set to churn out over 470 kW and 850 N.m of twisting force, exclusively delivered to the front-engined supercar’s rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission — the latter featuring a wet start-up clutch to provide sharper response.
Toyota has yet to announce how quick the halo GR model will complete the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint. However, the company has revealed a targeted top speed — more than 320 km/h!
Set to tip the scales at 1 750 kg (or less), with a front-to-rear weight distribution of 45:55, Toyota’s upcoming hybrid supercar will be brought to a standstill via a set of Brembo carbon-ceramic brake discs — the latter sited behind 20-inch alloy wheels, fore and aft. The wheels are wrapped in specially developed 265/35 ZR20 front and 325/30 ZR20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber.
The GR GT’s all-aluminium frame — a first for a Toyota — measures 4 820 mm in length, 2 000 mm in width, and 1 195 mm in height. The wheelbase spans 2 725 mm.
