The revised Volvo XC60 has touched down in Mzansi. Here’s everything you need to know, including pricing and specs.
The updated XC60 is available with the choice of two powertrains. B5 models employ a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol internal combustion engine (ICE) incorporating mild-hybrid technology. The mild-hybrid unit produces 183 kW and 350 N.m of torque, the latter available in a broad 1 800 to 4 800 r/min swathe of the rev band. Power is delivered to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volvo claims an average fuel consumption of 7.6 L/100 km for the B5 variants, which allows for an operating range of over 930 km on a single, 71-litre tank of fuel. The B5 completes the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 6.9 seconds, before topping out at 180 km/h.
Spearheading the powertrain lineup, the T8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) unit pairs a 107 kW/309 N.m electric motor with a 2.0-litre turbo- and supercharged four-cylinder petrol ICE — the latter producing 233 kW and 400 N.m. The PHEV setup is endowed with a combined system output of 340 kW and 709 N.m, allowing for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 4.8 seconds. The top speed is rated at 180 km/h. The T8 derivatives have a claimed all-electric operating range of up to 56 km. The Swedish marque says the PHEV arrangement sips a combined 1.6 L/100 km

The four-strong revised XC60 line-up is priced from R1 058 400 and R1 116 300 for the B5 Core Bright and Plus Dark derivatives, respectively, with the T8 available from R1 460 800 for the Plus Bright model and R1 500 700 for the Ultra Dark variant. As standard, all models ship with a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan and a warranty of similar duration and distance. The T8 variants further gain an eight-year/160 000 km battery warranty.

In addition to the subtle exterior revisions made to the XC60 package, the interior gains Volvo’s new, more responsive infotainment system. Running on Google software, the latter setup comprises a 11.2-inch, touch-enabled display incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is also present.
