Ford Tourneo Custom Active: all you need to know

The Ford Tourneo Custom Active has touched down in Mzansi. Here’s what you can expect from the latest addition to the Blue Oval brand’s local family bus line-up, including how much it costs and specifications. See pricing below…

Joining the Tourneo Custom Trend in Ford South Africa’s Tourneo Custom model range, the Tourneo Custom Active is only available with the automaker’s 2.0-litre single-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel motor, tuned to deliver 100 kW and 360 N.m of twisting force, the latter of which exclusively sent to the front axle via an eight-speed automatic cog swapper. Power and torque are available from 3 500 r/min and 1 750 r/min (to 2 500 r/min), respectively.

(It is worth noting that the Transit Custom Sport, which recently arrived in Mzansi and employs the same oil-burner, is endowed with 125 kW and 390 N.m.)

Ford claims the 100 kW/360 N.m version of the SiT unit sips, on average, only 7.4 litres of diesel per 100 km (0.6 L/100 km less than the 125 kW/390 N.m SiT). Matching the latter figure allows for a range of nearly 950 km, before the 70-litre fuel tank needs refuelling.

Whereas the Transit Custom can be had in short-wheelbase format, the Tourneo Custom is only offered in long-wheelbase configuration. The eight-seater bus measures 5 450 mm, front to rear, 2 148 mm in width and 1 961 mm in height.

Stepping inside, the new entry-level model features Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system. The 13.0-inch, touch-enabled setup incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Eight-inch digital instrumentation is also included in the package, as is a reverse-view camera.

The Tourneo Custom features braked and unbraked towing capacities of 2 500 kg and 750 kg, respectively.
