Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max awarded top honours in ANCAP safety testing

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max has been awarded top honours in the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). Yup, the Chinese carmaker’s midsize SUV has scored a full house of five stars at ANCAP.

So, just how well did the Tiggo 7 Pro Max fare in adult occupant protection and child occupant protection? Well, for the former, the Tiggo 7 Pro scored 88 per cent, with the latter achieving a mark of 87 per cent. For vulnerable user protection and safety assist, the Tiggo 7 Pro Max received percentages of 72 and 86 per cent, respectively.

Of course, these scores can be attributed to the Tiggo 7 Pro’s host of safety features. According to the local arm of the Chinese car manufacturer, “Safety isn’t just a feature; it’s a core value embedded in the DNA of this extraordinary vehicle.”

Let’s take a closer look at the safety items included in the Tiggo 7 Pro Max package. For starters, it boasts eight airbags. It is also equipped with ABS and electronic stability control (ESC). However, that is not all. In Executive level of specification, the range-topping Tiggo 7 Pro Max gains an array of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The ADAS set-up in the pinnacle Tiggo 7 Pro Max comprises of 17 “intelligent” safety features. These include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, and rear collision warning. A driver monitoring system is also present, as is multi-collision brake set-up.

As a reminder, the Tiggo 7 Pro Max is powered by Chery’s 1.6-litre four-pot. The turbocharged petrol engine produces 145 kW and 290 Nm, sent to either the front wheels or all four corners via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Tiggo 7 Pro Max’s powertrain sips a claimed 7.0 L/100 km in the front-wheel-drive derivatives, with the all-paw model sipping 7.8 L/100 km on average.
