All-electric VW Polo detailed

Presented dressed in camouflage in 2025, Volkswagen has revealed fresh details about the (all-electric) ID. Polo hatchback.

The “Polo” nameplate is entering a new era, with Volkswagen having presented the all-electric model in September 2025. Now, the German automaker has revealed new details surrounding its future entry-level ID. model.

“The ID. Polo marks the beginning of a new generation of Volkswagen: with fresh design, intuitive operation, top quality and first-class driving characteristics – and finally with a proper name again,” said Thomas Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Brand Group Core and CEO of the Volkswagen brand.

Schäfer continues, “With an entry-level price starting at 25 000 euros, we are making electric mobility accessible to many people in Europe. And this is just the beginning: In 2026, we will launch six new electric models – all 100 per cent Volkswagen!”

The ID. Polo is underpinned by the Wolfsburg-based brand’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB+) platform, which has been “further developed” for this application. The emissions-free Polo’s bodywork measures 4 053 mm long, front to rear, and 1 816 mm in width, making it slightly shorter and narrower than that of the (South African-built) current-generation internal combustion (ICE) model. The upcoming emissions-free model’s wheelbase is longer, however; measuring 2 600 mm (up 48 mm). VW says the ID. Polo’s boot has a capacity of 435 litres — the latter expanding to a generous 1 243 litres for utility purposes when the rear seatbacks are folded.

In terms of the powertrain, the ID. Polo’s all-electric setup will comprise a single electric motor, fed by either a 37 kWh (net) lithium-iron phosphate battery or 52 kWh (net) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery. The ID. Polo models equipped with the former battery pack are available in 85 kW and 99 kW states of tune, while the variant endowed with the larger battery produces 155 kW. VW will also introduce a GTI derivative to the line-up; this model featuring the 52 kWh NMC battery and producing a healthier 166 kW.
