Volvo has released new details surrounding the soon-to-be-revealed EX60 all-electric SUV.
First teased in October 2025, the Volvo EX60 emissions-free SUV will make its global debut on 21 January 2026, with production kicking off in the first half of the year. In the initial announcement, the Swedish carmaker didn’t reveal much about the all-electric midsize SUV, though did say that the soon-to-be-unveiled model represents the next evolution in the company’s design language and technology, and promises a longer range than any previous electric Volvo.
The EX60 is designed to be a game-changer
Said Grant Locke, Managing Director at Volvo Car South Africa, “The upcoming EX60 signals the next chapter in Volvo’s journey toward becoming a fully electric brand. As South Africa’s EV landscape continues to expand — with more charging points, growing awareness, and an appetite for premium electrification — the EX60 will arrive at the perfect time. It’s designed to bring our latest technology to a broader audience while delivering the range, confidence and everyday practicality that local drivers expect.”
Now, the Gothenburg automaker has released more detailed information about the new model, which will be positioned between the EC40 (previously C40) coupé-styled SUV and EX90 flagship SUV. Set to be produced at the brand’s Torslanda assembly facility in Gothenburg, Sweden, the EX60 is based on Volvo’s SPA3 (Scalable Product Architecture 3), which the firm says is the key to the EX60’s “class-leading” all-electric operating range.

So, just how far will the EX60 be able to travel when its lithium-ion battery pack is fully charged? Well, Volvo claims “up to” a “best-in-class” 810 km (WLTP). In addition, when plugging in the EX60 to a 400 kW DC fast charger, it takes just 10 minutes to add “up to” 340 km of range — “making a charging stop nearly as fast as a fuel stop,” Volvo says.
“The EX60 is designed to be a game-changer,” said Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars. “With our new electric vehicle architecture, we directly address the main worries that customers have when considering a switch to a fully electric car. The result is class-leading range and fast charging speeds, marking the end of range anxiety.”
