Injecting full-bore electrification into Alfa Romeo’s local model portfolio, the Junior, the Italian car manufacturer’s first fully electrified offering, has officially launched in Mzansi. Priced from a hair below R800 000 in South Africa, the line-up comprises a duo of derivatives — Elettrica and Elettrica Veloce.
How much does the Alfa Romeo Junior cost in South Africa?
The Alfa Romeo Junior is priced from R799 900 for the Junior Elettrica and R999 900 for the Junior Elettrica Veloce. The sticker price includes a service plan spanning five years or 100 000 km, a vehicle warranty of same duration and distance as the latter, and an eight-year/150 000 km warranty for the battery pack.

The Junior line-up’s 400 V electric architecture comprises a single electric motor, which drives the front wheels, and a lithium nickel manganese cobalt battery pack with a gross capacity of 54 kWh (50.8 kWh, usable). The Junior Elettrica produces 118 kW and 260 N.m of torque. According to the automaker, these figures allow the 1 545 kg (claimed) emissions-free crossover/SUV to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.0 seconds. The Junior Elettrica tops out at 152 km/h.
Upping the ante, the Junior Elettrica Veloce produces a healthier 207 kW and 345 N.m. The apex Junior dispatches the 0-100 km/h dash in a claimed 5.9 seconds, before topping out at 200 km/h.
However, as it occasionally the case, with more power and performance, comes the caveat of less operating range, with the more powerful model offering a maximum emissions-free driving range of 334 km, 76 km less than the Junior Elettrica.
“The arrival of the Alfa Romeo Junior marks a historic moment for our brand in South Africa,” said Janus Janse van Rensburg, Brand Head of Alfa Romeo South Africa. “For the first time, Alfa Romeo is introducing fully electric models to our market – a defining step in our journey toward electrified performance.”
