Volvo SA confirms upcoming ES90 line-up

Scheduled to touch down in Mzansi in the first quarter of 2026, Volvo South Africa has revealed with which trim grades the ES90 will be available locally.

The Volvo ES90’s local introduction is imminent, with the Gothenburg brand’s flagship all-electric saloon penned in to arrive in Mzansi in the first quarter of 2026. Now, before its SA debut, the Swedish marque’s local arm has announced the trim grades with which it will be available.

  • Core

Designed to offer a refined balance between comfort, technology and safety, Core trim line will include such niceties as a head-up display, four-zone climate control, replete with an advanced air quality system, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats with two-way lumbar support, a rear-view parking camera, a power-operated tailgate, and eco-friendly ‘Nordico’ upholstery — the latter of which complemented by Dark Matter décor finishes to enhance the cabin’s contemporary aesthetic. Adaptive cruise control is also present, along with lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and more.

  • Plus

Building on Core spec, Plus level of specification gains four-way lumbar support for the front seats, enhanced ambient lighting, a power-adjustable steering column, and several additional items. Plus grade can also be specified with a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

  • Ultra

The flagship trim in the line-up, Ultra spec is available with ‘Zinc Tailored Wood Blend’ upholstery and features massaging functionality for the front seats, electrically reclining rear pews, HD headlamps, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera, to name but a few items.

“Bringing the ES90 to South Africa has been a long-anticipated moment,” said Grant Locke, Managing Director of VCSA. “It represents our vision of modern luxury and driving enjoyment, and we cannot wait for customers here to experience it for themselves as the next chapter of our product journey unfolds.”

The ES90 will be available with the choice of three powertrains. Serving as the opening gambit to the powertrain line-up, the Single Motor Extended Range variant is endowed with 245 kW and 480 N.m of torque. The sole rear-wheel-drive ES90 derivative completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 6.9 seconds. A combined operating range of 650 km is on offer when this model’s 92 kWh battery pack is fully charged.

The Twin Motor ES90’s dual electric-motor setup is coupled with a 106 kWh battery. According to Volvo, this model’s 330 kW and 670 N.m system output allows for a 0-100 km/h sprint of 5.5 seconds. An emissions-free operating range of up to 700 km is available when fully charged.

Spearheading the line-up, the Twin Motor Performance is equipped with the same battery as the former (all-wheel-drive) model. However, this derivative’s dual electric-motor arrangement produces 500 kW and 870 N.m – good for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.0 seconds. This model’s all-electric operating range matches that of the Twin Motor model.
