Billed as the apex air-cooled RUF of the ’90s, Broad Arrow Auctions has announced a 1988 RUF CTR 2 Sport will go under the gavel at the 2025 Monterey Jet Center Auction.
Unveiled in 1995, the RUF CTR 2 aimed to build on its predecessor’s high-performance provisos. A mint example of the CTR 2 Sport is now scheduled for auction in the US…and the estimated price it is expected to fetch is jaw-dropping.
The CTR 2 is powered by a “race-bred” 3.6-litre horizontally opposed six-cylinder that was inspired by the unit employed by Porsche’s Group C 962 race car. The rear-mounted powertrain was coupled with a six-speed manual transmission, specially modified by RUF. Rear- and all-wheel drivetrains were available.
Equipped with breathing apparatus in the shape of a twin-turbocharger arrangement, the CTR 2’s flat-six produced a healthy 433 kW and 781 N.m of twisting force, allowing this 993-generation Porsche 911-based RUF to complete the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.6 seconds (claimed), before topping out at 350 km/h — the latter making it the fastest production car of its time. The CTR 2 was brought to a halt by a set of carbon-ceramic disc brakes, a first for a production road car, the firm says.

Only 29 examples of the CTR 2 were made, making it one of RUF’s most sought-after models. However, it is worth noting, of this number, only 14 was CTR 2 Sport derivatives, and the car you see here only one of four examples specified with an all-wheel drivetrain.
So, this car is undeniably rare. But just how much is this example, which has only 26 842 km on the clock, estimated to fetch at Broad Arrow Auctions’ upcoming event in Monterey, California? Well, an eye-watering $3 million to $3.5 million, around R53 million and R62 million, respectively.
“The RUF CTR 2 has quickly become one of the most sought-after supercars for today’s most active buyers,” said Alexander Weaver, Senior Car Specialist and Vice President of Private Sales for Broad Arrow. “It offers race-ready dynamics wrapped in grand tourer luxury — something that appeals to today’s younger collectors, along with membership into what is perhaps one of the collector car market’s most exclusive clubs.
