Pricing: New Mercedes-Benz E-Class lands in SA

The E-Class has been a staple in Mercedes-Benz’s portfolio for many years. Now, the latest generation of the German marque’s executive saloon has touched down on South African shores. Here’s everything you can expect from the brand-new E-Class, including how much it costs (see pricing below).

Currently, the local E-Class portfolio comprises a duo of derivatives, the E200 and E220d, both of which ships, as standard, with Avantgarde level of specification. However, if you’re looking for an even sportier aesthetic, AMG Line trim is available as an option.

Both of these models employ 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged powertrains, fuelled by unleaded in the E200 and diesel in the E220d. The former derivative’s petrol unit produces 150 kW and 320 N.m of torque, available from 5 800 and a lowly 1 600 r/min, respectively. The E220d churns out 145 kW and 440 N.m, the latter of which is on tap from 1 800 to 2 800 r/min in the rev band.

In addition, both of these Es incorporate mild-hybrid tech, which, for short durations, provides an additional 17 kW/205 N.m boost. Power and torque are sent exclusively to the rear axle via the firm’s familiar nine-speed automatic transmission.

The Three-pointed Star brand says the E200 sips, on average, 7.2 L/100 km, while the diesel derivative’s claimed fuel economy is 2.2 L/100 km less at 5.0 L/100 km.

As standard, the new E-Class models ship with maintenance plan spanning five years or 100 000 km and a two-year/unlimited km warranty.

According to the CEO of Mercedes-Benz SA, Mark Raine, the latest E-Class sits at the upper echelons of its segment, with the new iteration serving as proof that innovation is at the forefront of what the Stuttgart-based company does. “The 2024 E-Class is the most advanced E-Class ever, while retaining that unrivalled luxury appeal and dynamic driving experience. It is a window into the future of Mercedes-Benz,” said Raine.
