PRICING: Mitsubishi Triton Shogun arrives in SA

While we wait for the local introduction of the new-generation Triton, the South African arm of the Japanese manufacturer has handed the currently-available model the Shogun treatment, with the automaker saying, “This limited-edition model is sure to appeal to enthusiasts while continuing of offer excellent value.” So, on the topic of value — just what exactly does this model feature for its asking price? Before we get to the latter, let’s first take a look at the standard equipment…

Mitsubishi Triton Shogun

For starters, the Triton Shogun, which is based on the six-speed automatic-equipped Triton 4×4 variant, gains an array of black-finished exterior elements. These include the covers of the head- and taillamps and fog lamps, garnish for the front bumper, roof rails, model-specific sports bar, and 18-inch alloy wheels, which are wrapped in Dunlop A/T rubber. A tow bar is fitted as standard.

Stepping inside, the interior has gained a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, replete with black and red contrast stitching, and leather upholstery for the pews, which also feature red stitching. In addition, the Shogun has been handed a Sony sound system, which is coupled with a touchscreen infotainment system incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring.

The Triton Shogun is priced at R809 990. Pricing includes a three-year/100 000 km warranty and a service plan spanning five years or 90 000 km.

As a reminder, the variant this double-cab model is based on is powered by the company’s 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The four-cylinder oil-burner churns out 133 kW and 430 N.m of torque, available from 3 500 r/min and 2 500 r/min, respectively.
