New VW Tayron unveiled!

Following the global reveal of the third-generation Tiguan, it was only a matter of time before Volkswagen whipped the wraps off the successor to its popular mid-size family SUV’s larger sibling, the Tiguan Allspace. Well, recently, the Wolfsburg-based brand did just that, with VW unveiling the latest version of its mid-size, seven-seater family SUV. It doesn’t don the “Allspace” moniker anymore, though. Indeed, the Tiguan Allspace has been replaced by the new Tayron. So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at what you can expect from the Tayron…

From an exterior point of view, the brand-new Tayron’s styling mirrors that of the Tiguan. However, measuring “around” 4 800 mm bow to stern, the Tayron’s bodywork is, of course, considerably longer than the Tiguan’s (4 539 mm) to accommodate an additional row of seats and provide increased boot space for luggage.

Stepping inside, the Tayron’s cabin is familiar to the interior of the new VW Tiguan, with the most notable item coming in the shape of a centrally mounted, 12.5-inch, touch-enabled infotainment screen, which incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring. A digital driver’s display, sited fore a multifunction tiller, is included in the package, as is three-zone automatic climate control. The Tayron further features LED fore and aft headlamp clusters, among an array of other items.

As a reminder, in September 2024, the box-fresh VW Tiguan made its local debut, with the latest iteration of the German marque’s mid-size family SUV arriving in Mzansi in three flavours: (110 kW/250 N.m) 1.4 TSI, (110 kW/340 N.m) 2.0 TDI, and (140 kW/350 N.m) 2.0 TSI, the latter two of which are equipped with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. All models feature the firm’s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Although having made its global premiere only recently, a fair bet would be that the Tayron will, in due time, make its way to SA shores to replace the outgoing Tiguan Allspace. The Tayron will likely be offered with the same engine-drivetrain configurations and trim lines (entry-level ‘Tiguan’, mid-spec ‘Life’, and range-topping ‘R-Line’ level of specification) as its five-seater sibling.
