The box-fresh Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has touched down on South African shores, with the local arm of the Japanese automaker saying it believes the stylish compact crossover/SUV will be a popular choice in the highly-competitive compact crossover/SUV segment. See pricing below…

New Mitsubishi Outlander Sport model line-up and specifications
The new Outlander Sport model line-up comprises a quartet of derivatives, with the range kicking off with the GL model. As standard, GL spec includes such items as 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment; a 4.2-inch information display, sited betwixt analogue instrumentation; a reverse-view camera system; manual air conditioning, and keyless entry. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are also included in the GL package. In addition to these items, GLS trim gains several driver assistance technologies.
Aspire level of specification upgrades to a 12.3-inch, touch-enabled infotainment system; 8.0-inch digital instrumentation; wireless smartphone charging; dual-zone climate control, and 18-inch alloys. Noteworthy, Aspire spec also gains an additional two airbags (on top of the GL and GLS’s four) for a total of six. The flagship, Exceed derivative further features an eight-speaker sound system, on top of several other additional items.

New Mitsubishi Outlander Sport engine and transmission
A single engine option — Mitsubishi’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit — is employed across the four-strong range. The naturally aspirated powertrain produces 77 kW and 141 N.m of torque, available from 6 000 r/min and 4 000 r/min, respectively. Mitsubishi claims an average fuel consumption figure of 6.2 L/100 km. Matching the latter allows for a range of 677 km from the crossover/SUV’s 42-litre fuel tank.

The new Outlander Sport is priced from R429 990 for the entry-level, GL derivative to R499 990 for the top-spec, Exceed variant. As standard, all models ship with a five-year/unlimited km warranty and a service plan spanning three years or 45 000 km.
