Sporting a rugged exterior design and tech-laden interior, the Haval H7 has arrived in Mzansi. Here’s all you need to know about Haval’s new flagship SUV…
The local Haval H7 model line-up currently comprises a duo of derivatives, both employing a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (we’ll get to the powertrain selection in a few). However, in the second quarter of 2025, Haval will introduce a hybrid version to the range. Keeping with the company’s trim-grade denominations, the petrol-only H7 models can be had in Luxury and Super Luxury levels of specification, while the petrol-electric variant will only be available in range-topping, Super Luxury spec.

As standard, Luxury and Super Luxury specification include a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument binnacle. A panoramic sunroof is also standard fitment across the range. Super Luxury upgrades to leather upholstery (Luxury grade features synthetic leather) and ventilation for the electrically adjustable front pews. The exterior colour palette includes Hamilton White, Sun Black, Grey, and Orange.
The H7 is underpinned by the same platform as its H6 sibling. However, in H7 is considerably larger than the latter model, with its sheet metal measuring 4 705 mm front to rear, 1 908 mm wide, and 1 780 mm in height. The SUV sports a ground clearance of 210 mm. Haval claims the H7’s boot swallows 483 litres of luggage, with the latter extended to 1 362 litres when folding down the rear seat backs.
Sited below the bonnets of the variants available from launch is, as mentioned, a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot. The petrol unit churns out 170 kW and 380 N.m of torque, sent to either the front axle (in the entry-level, Luxury-spec model) or all four corners (in the Super Luxury derivative) via a nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Exclusively available in front-wheel-drive guise, the soon-to-arrive hybrid (HEV) variant is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is coupled with an electric motor. Coupled with a “unique” dual hybrid transmission (DHT), the petrol-electric arrangement produces 179 kW and 530 N.m.

How much does the new Haval H7 cost in South Africa?
