Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed concept previews exclusive new model

Come 2025, Mercedes-AMG will introduce to its line-up the ‘Mythos’ series, a range of “highly exclusive” models reserved for only the “most dedicated” collectors and enthusiasts of the Affalterbach-based brand. Previewing the first offering in the German marque’s portfolio of new limited-production products, the automaker has whipped the covers off the PureSpeed, a concept model previewing what’s to come.

Limited to only 250 units once released next year, the PureSpeed takes inspiration from the legendary race cars adorned with the Three-pointed Star moniker. Included among the latter are the iconic 300 SLR and even those from the firm’s Formula 1 racers. In addition, there are also some design cues inspired by the manufacturer’s latest hypercar, the Mercedes-AMG One. As such, Mercedes-AMG says the PureSpeed sports a “radical” design.

The most “radical” design cue is arguably the fitment of a Formula 1-inspired HALO instead of traditional A-pillars. Yup, the latter isn’t present … at all! Instead, the HALO will provide safety to the occupants of this open-top two-seater performance car. In addition, the HALO has been designed to offer improved aerodynamics. The fortunate few to purchase the PureSpeed will also receive a couple of helmets — optimised for aerodynamics — for the driver and passenger.

Design elements taking inspiration from the 300 SLR include the “flying buttresses” sited behind the occupants. The most notable design cue of the PureSpeed that takes inspiration from the Mercedes-AMG One is the “shark nose” front end. Myriad visible carbon-fibre elements are also present.

“The Concept Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed offers a glimpse of what is probably the most direct way to experience performance and driving pleasure,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class & Mercedes Maybach divisions of the open-top sports car.

“Radically open, neither a roof nor the windscreen separate the two passengers from the elements. You can experience light, air and passion unfiltered with all your senses.”
