The amalgamation of a C-Class coupé and an E-Class coupé, the Mercedes-Benz CLE coupé cuts a dashing figure. Indeed, getting back to the latter statement, the Three-pointer Star brand’s latest two-door is arguably the coupé-styled love child of the C and E.
Indeed, the German marque does mention it sports the, ahem, sportiness of the C, yet offers the space and status of the E. In addition, we would go so far as saying that, when viewed from the side, the CLE’s glasshouse looks like that of the previous-generation C-Class coupé.
However, the CLE seen here is no run-of-the-mill model. It is, in fact, the AMG variant. So, let us introduce you to the CLE 53.

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53, the automaker says, redefines the entry-level performance coupé segment. So, let’s start with performance…
The CLE 53 is powered by the Affalterbach-based brand’s 3.0-litre inline-six, coupled with the company’s AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission. The turbocharged engine churns out 330 kW and 560 Nm of torque, the latter with which is lifted to 600 Nm (for 12 seconds) when overboost is engaged. In addition, thanks to the integrated starter generator, the wheels (all four of them) are fed an extra 17 kW and 205 Nm for a brief period of time.
AMG claims a top speed of 250 km/h. However, the latter can be increased by 20 km/h when ticking the option box next to the AMG Driver’s Package.
Stopping power is provided by an AMG brake system, comprising perforated and internally ventilates discs measuring 370 mm up front and 360 mm at the rear. The former and latter features four and single-piston floating callipers, respectively.

The AMG CLE derivative is set apart from its standard stablemates by means of a model-specific, A-shaped grille. Of course, as this is an AMG, the latter features several vertically arranged, chrome-finished slats.
This model’s fore and aft tracks have also been increased (by 58 mm and 75 mm, respectively). As standard, the alloy wheels measure 19 inches. However, those wanting to add a more prominent look to their CLE 53 can specify 20-inch items at additional cost.
The rear end features round tailpipe housings. A boot-mounted spoiler lip is also present.
