Ford Territory headed to SA!

Ford South Africa has announced the new Territory is headed to South African shores, with the local arm of the Blue Oval brand confirming when newcomer will be available and how many models will make up the line-up. But before we get to what you can expect, let’s get the former out of the way. When will the Territory go on sale in SA? In short, the second quarter of 2024. Now, let’s dive in to the details…

Slotting in between the Puma and Everest in Ford SA’s portfolio, the Territory range will comprise of three derivatives: the entry-level Ambiente, mid-spec Trend, and flagship Titanium model. Let’s take a look at the specifications of each trim lines, starting from the base-spec variant.

The Territory Ambiente, Ford SA says, sports an “impressive” list of standard features despite it being the most affordable model (we’ll get to the pricing a bit later). Ambiente grade includes a 12.3-inch, centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system relaying tunes over six speakers via Apple CarPlay/Android Auto screen mirroring or Bluetooth connectivity.

A trio of USB ports can be found in the front compartment, with a single USB port located at the rear of this five-seater SUV. Cruise control is also included, and is, among other functions, operated via the multifunction steering wheel. There’s also manual air conditioning. In addition, the Ambiente features six- and four-way manually adjustable pews for the driver and front passenger, respectively.

Moving on to the mid-tier model — Trend spec. This variant gains, among other items, “high-quality” vinyl trim for the pews, dual-zone climate control, a reverse-view camera system, wireless smartphone charging, and an electrochromatic rear-view mirror. What’s more, the Trend ships with automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and an electrically operated tailgate.

Spearheading the local Territory range, the Titanium variant upgrades to leather trim for the pews, the driver’s of which is 10-way electrically adjustable (the front passenger gains four-way electric adjustability). The tiller is also wrapped in hide.

Titanium grade further features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an eight-speaker sound system. There are also a twin-panel panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting to enhance the, ahem, ambience of the cabin.

Setting the Titanium apart from its Ambiente and Trend stablemates, it’s fitted with a set of 19-inch double-spoke alloy wheels. Chrome trim is also present.

So, what powers the Territory? Well, one engine option is employed across the range. This is Ford’s 1.8-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol, which produces 138 kW and 318 Nm of torque. The powertrain is coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

But how much will the Territory cost? Well, Ford SA is yet to release pricing for the full model range. However, we can confirm that pricing will kick off at R610 000.
