Ford Ranger Tremor confirmed for SA

So you are looking to buy the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X, but don’t have the means to stretch over R1 million for a bakkie? Well, the Ranger Tremor might be the answer. Indeed, the latter double cab is heading to South Africa, and Ford SA has released the first details of what you can expect from the Tremor-badged Ranger.

Although based on the Ranger XLT, the Ranger Tremor features several upgrades also found on the Ranger Wildtrak X. It sports the same suspension set-up, Bilstein position-sensitive dampers, a 24 mm increase in ground clearance, and a 30 mm wider track.

But what about the engine? Well, the Ranger Tremor employs Ford’s familiar 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged oil-burner. The four-cylinder diesel unit churns out 154 kW and 500 Nm of torque, available from 3 750 r/min and 1 750 r/min, respectively. Of course, the Ranger Tremor also features Ford’s 4WD system.

So what sets this Ranger model apart from its XLT-badged sibling? Well, for starters, there are several “Tremor” decals around the bodywork, while the “Ford” emblems on the front grille and tailgate have been handed a black finish. A steel bash plate, underbody protection, and a duo of front tow hooks are also present, as are aluminium side steps and a tubular sports bar. The Ranger Tremor rides on 17-inch Asphalt Black alloys, wrapped in all-terrain General Grabber AT3 tyres.

“The new Ranger raised the bar for comfort, practicality, performance and safety, and we are broadening both its appeal and capability even further with the addition of the Ranger Tremor,” said Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford SA.

Mashinini added: “Although the Tremor has all of the enhanced off-road capabilities shared with the Wildtrak X, it is based on the XLT series which makes it a more affordable option that is ideally suited to the most adventurous exploits and hard-working environments.”

So, how much can you expect to pay for the Ranger Tremor? Well, Ford SA hasn’t released pricing as of yet. However, be sure to keep a keen eye on Other People’s Cars for all the details. We will keep you updated as new information emerges.
