Volvo Car South Africa has confirmed the local launch date for the adventure-focused EX30. Here’s when the EX30 Cross Country will arrive in Mzansi.
Towards the end of March 2025, Volvo Car South Africa introduced the EX90, the Gothenburg-based brand’s new flagship SUV, to Mzansi. However, the Swedish marque had more plans for its local electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, with Volvo announcing the EX30 Cross Country is heading to our shores.
It’s a refined, all-electric SUV that feels equally at home on gravel roads or in the city.
According to the automaker, the EX30 Cross Country builds on everything people love about its most compact emissions-free crossover/SUV, with the adventure-focused package adding “rugged” capability to the EX30. Said Felipe Yagi, Head of Marketing and Communications at Volvo Car South Africa, “It’s a refined, all-electric SUV that feels equally at home on gravel roads or in the city, offering South Africans a practical way to go further with confidence.”

Staying true to its Cross Country moniker, which was introduced in 1997 with the V70, the EX30 Cross Country features an array of “adventurous” exterior styling elements. The latter includes such items as “unique” black finishes for the front facia and tailgate, “muscular” fore and aft skid plates, and wheel arch extensions. A neat addition to the package is the model-specific artwork highlighting the topography of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden that’s been applied to the EX30 Cross Country.
The Cross Country package also includes Matte Graphite 19-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels, replete with contrasting Matte Black aero inserts. Noteworthy, the EX30 Cross Country gains an increase in ground clearance for traversing unsealed surfaces (gravel and the like). A selection of adventure-focused accessories are also available, including mud flaps, a load carrier, and a roof basket for extra packing when heading on a weekend getaway.

The EX30 Cross Country will be exclusively available with the company’s Twin Motor Performance powertrain. As a reminder, this dual electric-motor setup produces a combined system output of 315 kW and 543 N.m of torque – figures that allow the non-Cross Country variant to complete the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in only 3.6 seconds.
Though, we expect the adventure version, though it will nonetheless be quick to the three-figure marker from a standstill, won’t quite be as fast as the standard model employing this setup. Volvo claims an operating range of 427 km for the EX30 Cross Country.
When will the Volvo EX30 Cross Country launch in South Africa?
The Volvo EX30 Cross Country will launch in South Africa in the third quarter of 2025. Local pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the launch date.
