Adventure-ready Ford Ranger Tremor launches in SA

The adventure-ready Ford Ranger Tremor has finally landed on South African shores, with the local arm of the Blue Oval brand announcing full spec and, most notably, confirming pricing for the latest double cab in its popular bakkie line-up. Here’s what you can expect.

Although based on the new-generation Ranger XLT, the Ranger Tremor has been handed an array of model-specific exterior elements. The latter includes a black honeycomb grille and LED auxiliary driving lights.

“Unique” Bolder Grey detailing for the lower front bumper, rear bumper, and wheel arches, among many other items. In addition, the Ranger Tremor gains all-terrain General Grabber AT3 rubber, wrapped around 17-inch Asphalt Black alloy wheels. “Tremor” badging are, of course, also present.

However, the enhancements made to this Ranger is not only cosmetic. Built for adventure, the Ranger Tremor boasts a 30 mm wider track and an increased ground clearance (up by 24 mm).

The Ranger Tremor is endowed with Ford’s familiar 2.0-litre, twin-turbocharged diesel engine. The oil-burner churns out 154 kW and 500 Nm of torque, sent to the firm’s full-time four-wheel-drive system, which uses an electromagnetic transfer case, via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Ranger Tremor is priced from R977 500. Pricing includes a four-year/120 000 km warranty. Service and maintenance plans are, however, optional.

“The new Ranger raised the bar for comfort, practicality, performance and safety, and we are broadening both its appeal and capability even further with the addition of the Ranger Tremor,” said Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa.

“[The] Tremor is aimed at customers who require enhanced capability and confidence in conquering challenging off-road conditions, as well as owners that typically customize their vehicle for overlanding adventures.

“Although the Tremor has all of the enhanced off-road capabilities shared with the Wildtrak X, it is based on the XLT series which makes it a more affordable option that is ideally suited to the most adventurous exploits and hard-working environments.”
