When will the updated BMW iX launch in South Africa?

BMW South Africa has confirmed the updated iX will launch on local shores in the third quarter of 2025.

Pricing for the revised version of the automaker’s flagship emissions-free SUV (or sports activity vehicle — SAV — in BMW speak) has yet to be announced, however. But as a reminder, locally, the outgoing iX model line-up is priced from R1 735 000 for the xDrive40 derivative, R2 350 000 for the xDrive50 variant and R2 975 000 for the M60 xDrive model.

Updated BMW iX model line-up

The iX will again be available in three flavours. Seemingly replacing the (240 kW/630 N.m) xDrive40, the opening gambit to the revised range comes in the shape of the xDrive45. Compared to the former model, the latter’s twin electric-motor configuration produces 300 kW and 700 N.m, increases of 60 kW and 70 N.m, respectively. Thanks to the uprated power and torque outputs, the xDrive45 dispatches the 0-100 km/h dash in a claimed 5.1 seconds, one second quicker than the xDrive40, before topping out at an electronically governed 200 km/h. Notably, this “entry-level” model boasts an all-electric operating range of up to 602 km, 177 km more than the xDrive40, when its 94.8 kWh battery pack is fully charged.

Positioned above the xDrive45, the xDrive60’s electric motors produce a combined 400 kW (up 15 kW over the outgoing xDrive50), with its 765 N.m of available torque matching the xDrive50’s. The xDrive60’s 4.6-second 0-100 km/h sprint time and (electronically limited) 200 km/h top speed matches the xDrive50’s figures. However, the xDrive60 offers a 70 km increase in operating range, with 700 km of emissions-free driving available when its 109.1 kWh battery pack is fully charged.

Spearheading the updated iX range, the M70 xDrive is endowed with a healthy 485 kW, an increase of 30 kW over the M60 xDrive, and 1 015 N.m. According to BMW, these figures allow the pinnacle iX to sprint to the three-figure marker from a standstill in 3.8 seconds, before topping out at 250 km/h. The M70 xDrive offers an operating range of 600 km (up 36 km over the M60 xDrive) from its 108.9 battery pack.
