Porsche unveils updated (more powerful!) 911 Turbo S

Building on what made the 992-generation 911 Turbo S such a great all-round super sports car, Porsche has handed its benchmark-setting flagship 911 a raft of revisions, including the fitment of an electrified powertrain.

Unveiled in 2020, the 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S is arguably one of the (if not the) most well-rounded modern super sports car you can buy. The flagship product in the Stuttgart automaker’s 911 portfolio combines everyday usability and comfort with impressive levels of performance. Now, the German marque has revealed a revised version…and it elevates its predecessor’s provisos to new heights.

The 992.2-generation 911 Turbo S trades its 992.1 predecessor’s 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six for a 3.6-litre unit incorporating electric assistance in the shape of Porsche T-Hybrid technology, which first made its debut with the 992.2 Carrera GTS.

Compared to the 992.1, the 992.2 model’s powertrain produces 45 kW more power, with 523 kW now sent to all four corners via the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Twisting force has remained the same, at 850 N.m, but is available from lower down in the rev band (2 300 r/min vs 2 500 r/min)…and to 6 000 r/min instead of 4 000 r/min.

According to the company, the revisions made to the 992 now allows it to dispatch the 0-100 km/h dash in a whip-crack 2.5 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than the 992.1. The top speed is slightly down, however, by 8 km/h to 322 km/h.
