Mercedes-AMG unveils (450 kW) GT 63 Pro!

Aimed at car enthusiasts looking for an “exceptional” driving experience, Mercedes-AMG has whipped the wraps off the GT 63 Pro, a 450 kW/850 N.m version of the standard GT 63 sporting “optimised” aerodynamics. Here’s what you can expect from the GT 63 Pro…

As mentioned, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro employs an uprated version of the GT 63’s 4.0-litre V8 engine, with the turbocharged unit beating below the bonnet of the GT 63 Pro producing 20 kW and 50 N.m more than its non-Pro stablemate. The peak power and torque outputs of 450 kW and 850 N.m, the latter of which is available from 2 350 r/min to 5 000 r/min, are transferred to the Three-pointed Star brand’s 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system via the company’s familiar AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission.

According to the German marque, the increased power and torque outputs allow the GT 63 Pro to sprint to the three-figure marker from a standstill in 3.2 seconds, which, interestingly, matches the claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of the non-Pro version. However, the real difference comes in the 0-200 km/h acceleration stakes… With a claimed 0-200 km/h sprint time of “just” 10.9 seconds, the GT 63 Pro will reach the 200 km/h marker from standstill 0.5 seconds sooner than the standard GT 63, before topping out at 317 km/h (2 km/h more than the GT 63).

However, it is not only the V8 that’s seen updates; several mechanical components have been upgraded, as have the sports coupé’s aerodynamics. For the GT 63 Pro, the Affalterbach automaker has equipped the GT 63’s front apron with an ‘Airpanel’ active air control system, fitted a fixed rear wing to the tailgate and introduced additional underbody air deflectors, which are similar to the items found on the AMG One hypercar.

In addition, the GT 63 Pro rides on a set of AMG Performance 21-inch forged wheels. The latter, lightweight items are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R Cup tyres, measuring 295/30 and 305/30 at the front and rear, respectively. The GT 63 Pro is brought to a halt by carbon-ceramic brakes.
